To kick off our organization’s 95th anniversary celebration and to commemorate Women’s History Month, join AWA+D, the City of Santa Monica’s Cultural Affairs Department and the Santa Monica Conservancy for a day of tours and conversation about the legacy and future of women architects and designers in Southern California. Drawing inspiration from Julia Morgan, the pioneering architect behind the Marion Davies estate (now the Annenberg Beach House), the day will explore the milestones of Julia Morgan and the advancements, continued challenges, and opportunities for change within design. Julia Morgan’s challenges as a pioneering female architect have been well documented during and after her career, so as we mark 50 years since her passing in 1957, what challenges still remain for women today, and what has changed? This event is part of the City of Santa Monica’s year-round series of free arts & culture events at the Annenberg Community Beach House, RSVP on their Eventbrite page.
