The Future of Architecture: Pro Bono and Public Work

In October we had a lively discussion about the future of Architecture, and the changes in technology and project delivery methods. There is a great deal of interest in the overall topic and its many subtopics.

For the November/December meeting, we’ll be talking about the many facets of pro bono work (including unpaid internships), the idea of architecture as a civil right and the possibilities of doing meaningful public work. We’ll start with this intelligent list of questions (thank you Anne Zimmerman!!!).

What are appropriate types of pro bono work?
When should one have a contract?
Should you let the client know the value of the services?
What should an unpaid internship provide to the recipient and the provider?
What are the potential downsides of pro bono?
Who does pro bono help in the long run?
What risks does the recipient of pro bono face?
What is a professional approach to pro bono?
