Summary: THE RISE will consist of a moderated panel discussion held on the main stage of Dwell on Design at the LA Convention Center. Following will be a private reception with food, beverage and mingling. Your ticket to THE RISE offers access not only to the panel discussion and reception, but to the Dwell on Design exhibit ….ALL THREE DAYS!

The Association for Women in Architecture Foundation will host the annual scholarship event at the Southern California Institute of Architecture in the Downtown Arts District. In addition to the awards presentation, we will feature a panel of leading women in design in Los Angeles. We are pleased to welcome Isabelle Duvivier, Claire Latane, Doris Sung and Ingalill Wahlroos-Ritter in a discussion of practice and pedagogy. Refreshments will be served.

In a play on our educational evening series, ‘Cocktails +’, we bring you Coffee + Concrete: an am learning experience and workshop!  We will be given a private tour of Vertex Design Studio in Venice that will include: an individual concrete design exercise, concrete techniques presentation and discussion, and construction of a table together as a group.

Salon Deux will go roaming this Wednesday!  We will head to A+D Museum  to join conversations and a book signing with Metropolis Magazine Editor Susan S. Szenasy and Editor-in-Cheif/Publisher, Greg Goldin.

In its first symposium dedicated specifically to women, AIA Los Angeles presents POWERFUL, a symposium about women leading design. Featuring a diverse array of women professionals, the speakers will share stories and insight about their achievements and discuss the challenges and opportunities as women in architecture and design.

Our discussion topic in February is an outgrowth of our talk in January, where someone asked “Why is it we don’t have any respect from the public, clients or contractors?”  With the opinion of architects and architecture getting weaker every year, what can we do as  design professionals and members of AWA+D to improve our position?
